About our School

Formerly East Junior High School, Bird Middle School was established in 1981. In the 2001-2002 school year, Bird housed 468 students, in grades six through eight. The students were part of one of five teams: Team 6A, Team 6B, Team 7A, Team 7/8S and Team 8A. The staff of these teams, as well as the Related Arts and Special Ed staff, meet on a regular basis to plan integration of subject matter and keep communications open. Bird's flexible block scheduling allows teams the ability to extend class time for major projects. Walpole is also a member of the Metropolitan Council for Educational Opportunity (METCO) program.
