Vision StatementBird Middle School continues to operate under the vision statement created by staff and parents in 1993 which describes the following eight conditions in detail: 1. Bird Middle School should be a community of learners where close, trusting relationships between adults, students, and their peers create a climate for personal growth and intellectual development. 2. Every student in Bird Middle School should learn to think critically through mastery of an appropriate body of knowledge, lead a healthy life, behave ethically, and assume the responsibilities of global citizenship in a pluralistic society for the twenty-first century. 3. Bird Middle School's young adolescents should have the opportunity to succeed in every aspect of the middle level program, regardless of previous achievement or the pace at which they learn. 4. Decisions concerning the experiences of Bird Middle School students should be made by the adults who know them best. 5. Teachers at Bird Middle School should be selected and specially educated to teach young adolescents. 6. Bird Middle School's young adolescents must be healthy in order to learn. 7. Families and Bird Middle School staff will strive for mutual trust and respect enabling early adolescents to succeed in school. 8. Families, Bird Middle School personnel, and community organizations share responsibility for each student's success.
